What is CBD Oil Good For?

CBD oil is a natural remedy that has been used for centuries to treat various medical conditions. Considered safe to use by the World Health Organization (WHO), CBD has become popular as a supplement for general wellness in recent years. CBD oil is made from cannabis plants and contains high levels of CBD and other beneficial cannabinoids and terpenes. There are many different ways to take CBD oil, including orally, sublingually, or via cbd vape. But what is CBD oil good for? Read on to learn more about the benefits of CBD oil and how it can help you live a healthier life.

What is CBD Oil?

CBD is short for cannabidiol, a cannabinoid found in cannabis plants. CBD oil is created by extracting CBD from the cannabis plant and diluting it with a carrier oil, such as coconut or hemp oil. CBD oil is non-psychoactive, meaning that it will not get you high. CBD oil's lack of mind-altering effects, as well as its non-intoxicating nature, make it a popular choice for people looking for relief from various medical conditions.

From full spectrum CBD oil to CBD oil vape, there are many different types of CBD oil available, including tinctures, capsules, vape oils, gummies, and edibles. CBD oil tinctures are among the most common forms and can be administered in liquid form or added to food. CBD capsules come in two forms: standard filled softgel pills and a powder that is mixed with water. The powder form of CBD capsules can also be made into topical applications for skincare products. A third option for taking CBD is CBD oil vape. Vaping CBD is a straightforward method of administration and allows users to experience the benefits quickly, without having to wait for it to be processed by the digestive system first.

As the name implies, the most beneficial form is the full spectrum CBD oil because it includes all the compounds naturally found in the cannabis plant, including Cannabinoids, Terpenes, and Flavonoids. No matter what form you take, you must choose a high-quality product because what is in them can vary widely

What is CBD Oil Good For?

Research has shown that CBD oil can be effective in treating several medical conditions, including:

1-Anxiety: CBD oil has been shown to be an effective treatment for anxiety and panic attacks. CBD oil has a calming effect on the mind and can be used to effectively combat anxiety, stress, or even  post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

A major study by four New York University professors concluded that "preclinical evidence conclusively demonstrates CBD's efficacy in reducing anxiety behaviors relevant to multiple disorders, including PTSD, GAD, PD, OCD, and SAD, with a notable lack of anxiogenic effects."

2- Sleep quality: Nearly 70% of Americans report experiencing difficulty sleeping. Experts say more research is needed, but some early studies suggest that CBD oil can help improve sleep quality. CBD oil has been shown to reduce the number of nighttime awakenings, increase total sleep time, and improve overall sleep satisfaction. This could be due to CBD's ability to reduce anxiety and stress or promote relaxation.

In a recent interview with WebMD, Bhanuprakash (Bhanu) Kolla, MD, an associate professor of psychiatry and psychology at Mayo Clinic's Center for Sleep Medicine in Rochester, MN, said there is no evidence that CBD is harmful and that it can be taken to help improve sleep. But he also added that "at this point, we do not recommend the use of cannabis products for the treatment of sleep apnea or other sleep disorders."

3. Chronic pain and inflammation: CBD oil has been shown to be effective in reducing inflammation and pain. CBD oil is a non-addictive, non-toxic alternative to prescription painkillers. "The research on CBD products and pain management has been promising," wrote Kristeen Cherney in a medically-reviewed Healthline article.

"CBD can offer an alternative for people who have chronic pain and rely on medications, such as opioids, that can be habit-forming and cause more side effects. However, more research is needed to verify the pain-relieving benefits of CBD oil and other products," she added.

CBD has also been studied for its effect on joint inflammation in rats. According to a 2016 study, CBD gel reduced joint swelling and pain in rats without producing any major negative side effects.

4. Cardiovascular health:  Inflammation is a significant contributor to cardiovascular disease. CBD oil can help reduce the effects of chronic inflammation and protect your heart from damage, thereby improving your overall health. CBD has been shown in studies to have a heart-protecting effect: this was demonstrated in rats after myocardial infarction and mice with some of the heart damage caused by diabetes.

Experts say more research is needed to confirm what effect CBD oil might have on the human heart.

Furthermore, blood pressure is another contributor to heart disease. CBD oil has been shown to reduce high blood pressure in both rats and humans. A 2017 study concluded, "a single dose of cannabidiol reduces blood pressure in healthy volunteers."

 5. Depression symptoms: CBD oil has been shown to have antidepressant properties, and some studies suggest that it may be a good alternative for patients with chronic depression. A 2017 study found CBD significantly reduced symptoms of anxiety in those who suffered from social anxiety disorder (SAD).

Furthermore, preliminary research suggested that CBD oil could improve mood disorders in people living with bipolar disorder. Researchers have found that CBD was effective in treating symptoms such as anxiety, depression, and cognitive functioning.

CBD treatment for eight weeks reduced depression and anxiety symptoms in a young adolescent with complex substance use problems, sadness, and anxiety, according to a 2019 case study. The study adds that the patient could also stop taking antidepressant medications and come off all substances.

Potential Side Effects

Even though health organizations in the United States and worldwide consider CBD oil generally safe, it can have some negative side effects.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has thus far approved just one CBD product as a prescription drug to treat seizures associated with Lennox Gastaut syndrome (LGS), Dravet syndrome (DS), or tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) in individuals one-year-old and older.

According to WebMD, CBD can cause the following side effects:

  • dry mouth
  • low blood pressure
  • light-headedness
  • drowsiness.

High doses of the prescription form of CBD, called Epidiolex, have also been linked to symptoms of liver damage.

Experts also warn against taking CBD if you're pregnant or breastfeeding, as there's not enough research on the long-term effects. More studies are needed to determine CBD oil's full potential and any side effects it may have. In the meantime, speak with your doctor before starting CBD oil to ensure it's right for you.

In brief, preliminary research suggests CBD oil is a safe, effective treatment for many people. However, more research is needed to determine what effect CBD will have on others due to the various ways in which it interacts with other drugs and compounds. From anxiety and depression to chronic pain and cardiovascular health, CBD oil has been shown to offer a variety of potential health benefits. Always speak with your doctor before starting CBD oil to ensure it is safe and right for you. We hope this article helped answer your questions about CBD oil and what it can do for your health.
